We (the RX Extensibility Team) envision programmability on the XRPL as the glue that seamlessly connects its powerful, native building blocks with the flexibility of custom on-chain business logic. This vision focuses on preserving what makes the XRPL special—its efficiency, reliability, and simplicity—while empowering builders to unlock new possibilities. 저희(RX 확장성 팀)는 XRPL의 프로그래밍 가능성을 강력한 네이티브 빌딩 블록과 사용자 정의 온체인 비즈니스 로직의 유연성을 원활하게 연결하는 접착제로 생각합니다. 이 비전은 XRPL을 특별하게 만드는 것, 즉 효율성, 안정성, 단순성을 보존하는 데 중점을 두는 동시에 빌더가 새로운 가능성을 열 수 있도록 지원합니다.

Instead of diving headfirst into a complex smart contract protocol spec, we want to take baby steps (as @JoelKatz puts it). The first initiative? Extensions, or Smart Features. An “extension” is a small piece of code attached to an XRPL building block, which allows users to add some custom logic to the existing primitives. This can be very useful for projects that like the existing features of the XRPL, but need a minor modification to a feature to be able to use it. One of the XRPL’s biggest strengths lies in its foundational building blocks—primitives like tokens, escrows, and the DEX, which offer secure, robust, native functionality. Smart Features allow us to lean into these strengths by enhancing what already exists, rather than replacing it. By leveraging the existing toolkit of the XRPL, we can unlock powerful new capabilities while maintaining the simplicity and efficiency the network is known for. Starting with Smart Escrows instead of going straight to Smart Contracts allows us to test out the VM integration with a much smaller feature, so that it’s easier to protect against unforeseen errors, and any issues will be much smaller and more limited. 스마트 계약으로 바로 이동하는 대신 스마트 에스크로로 시작하면 훨씬 더 작은 기능으로 VM 통합을 테스트할 수 있으므로 예상치 못한 오류로부터 보호하기가 더 쉽고 모든 문제가 훨씬 작고 제한적일 것입니다.

The first & most important thing to understand: XRP Ledger already has native modules like a DEX, escrow, tokens and more that are all needed by traditional finance to onboard into crypto. Most chains like Ethereum chose to do full programmability from the start. $XRP on the other hand built hyper optimized modules for the top use cases (DEXs, tokens, etc.) This new programmability specifically ENHANCES those existing modules. The team will incrementally be rolling out programmability to all of the native & optimized modules.
